Our collection of leather bags, purses, clutches are crafted from
genuine full grain buffalo leather. Buffalo is a domesticated oxen
native to Asia and Africa. They do not belong to the same genus as the
American "buffalo," or bison. The Asian water buffalo, or carabao, is
still to be found in wild herds, though as a rule it is domesticated. |
| |
Asian water buffalo, Bubalus bubalis, has been heavily
domesticated and thus is now widespread. It is a native of India and
other parts of Asia. Measuring up to 6 feet at the shoulder has thick
horns and can weigh as much as 2,200 lbs. They are massive and powerful
animals, dark brown in color, short stiff and scanty hair. A large
portion of the hide is bare and glossy. |
Leather |
In our high tech world of polyester, rayon, and
rubber, leather is one of the last remaining natural materials. Leather
is versatile, was even used as shield in ancient times. Today leather is
used for making shoes, (the shoe industry is one of the largest user’s
of leather) and as upholstery, not to mention fashion industry, which is
making garments, gloves, caps, bags, handbags, purses, clutch, waist belts etc. from
leather. There is a long list of different |
 |
kinds of leather like cow
leather, calfskin leather, pig leather, goat & sheep leather. Exotic
leathers such as croco & snakeskin also include fish and
ostrich. All these carry characteristics and are put to use in
accordance with their suitability for a particular product. |
The skins & hides are put to long and tedious chemical & mechanical process (known as tanning) to get what we wear and carry as hand bags, purses or clutches. The process of tanning imparts not only color and feels also permanent preservation. This longevity is achieved, by cross-linking the skin proteins. |
The qualities that are typical for leather are good tear and tensile strength, elasticity, breath ability, air and water vapor permeability, thermal insulation and water resistance, shape retention as well as the constant performance of these properties under varying influences of temperature and moisture. |
Care |
Leather ages but can last lifetime if cared for. Help them last by allowing it to age gracefully. Leather doesn’t need any special care but careful and gentile handling. This is especially true for small leather goods like bags, handbags, belts, purses, clutches, wallets etc. |
Some Tips |
Help the leather articles i.e. handbags, bags, purses, clutches to retain their shapes by stuffing them with soft materials like fabric scraps, tissues etc when not in use. Garments, by hanging on padded hangers (not metal) and covering them. An old pillowcase can be modified into a makeshift garment cover (avoid plastic covers) and keep footwear neat by using a shoetree.
It’s a good idea to store/cover articles with covers made from breathable materials like cotton fabric. Dust bags are excellent choice for bags, purses, clutches & handbags.
Keeping leather goods away from direct sunlight, humid and dry conditions.
It will do well if leather accessories and apparels are saved from sprinkles of perfume & hair sprays.
